Clifford AvantGuard 5.5 (650 with Same G5 Sensors)
From September 2010 the Clifford AvantGuard 5.5 car alarm system stopped being imported for use into the UK. However it is still possible to get the same functionality as an AvantGuard by using a 650 Mark 2 with the same Generation 5 modules. The 650 comes with a dual zone proximity sensor, therefore by adding a tilt/motion sensor and glass tamper sensor an equivalent system is achieved.

AvantGuard RIP
It all made sense as the two additional sensors always came separately boxed as independent G5 modules. Differences were just in the presentation, for example the headings on the user manual and the writing on the brain outer casing would say the word ‘AvantGuard’. Another difference was that the box the main system came in was slightly wider.
There is one major difference between the two systems and that only applies when engine remote start is added. Although again Intellistart came separately boxed it was however included in the Thatcham approval process and meant that an AvantGuard with Intellistart 4 was a full Cat 1 system. The Concept 650 II gained Thatcham approval without the Intellistart system and therefore adding it may invalidate it’s Cat 1 status. This may be viewed differently by different insurance companies and therefore we say that, ‘adding engine remote start may invalidate the Category 1 status of your alarm system’.

Generally this is a complex car alarm system and takes a full day to fit and set up. However, occasionally 1½ days may be needed, for some makes & model of car, especially if engine remote start is included.
